Creative computers in science fiction

Science Fiction oozes with creative or sentient machines. On the screen they've ranged from the mechanical Maria in Metropolis to Data in Star Trek, The Next Generation. Classic written examples include I Robot (Isaac Asimov), The Moon is a Harsh Mistress (Robert Heinlein) and Roderick (John Sladek). For an attempt at realism, try The Turing Option (Harry Harrison & Marvin Minsky).
